Deadly Deceit by Natalie Walters (review)

Second in the Harbored Secrets trilogy, Deadly Deceit is small town suspense with a fraught but fun romantic relationship. Deputy Ryan Frost is a computer genius, recently returned from training at Langley and contemplating the future direction of his career. Vivian Demarco is a witness to the death of the man who still believed in her after she killed her career as a journalist by having ethics. As they pursue the unknown forces behind the murder, they soon learn of The Watcher, a blackmailer who expertly manipulates his prey.

Danger and intrigue mixed with attraction, faith, and fun superhero references makes for a tense and amusing read. I loved the surprise (advance Easter egg?)  mentions of SNAP and one of Ryan and Vivian’s banter sessions had me laughing out loud. Deadly Deceit is a prime example of why this historical fiction lover keeps coming back for more Romantic Suspense by Natalie Walters.

When her boss suddenly dies under suspicious circumstances, Vivian’s only hope for finding the truth–and the next big story–is small-town law enforcement’s lanky poster boy, Deputy Ryan Frost. But the deeper they dig, the more twisted the truth becomes. False leads, incriminating emails, and someone called the Watcher force Vivian to fight for answers–and her life.
