Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books.
My nerdy, history loving, born-in-Washington-state heart went pitter patter when I first saw the cover of Karen Barnett’s The Road to Paradise. Historical fiction set in Washington, at Mount Rainier National Park? And with a vintage poster style cover? Yes, please!
This book (that I pre-ordered last year) has been languishing on my bookshelf, continually giving way to review copies, but the second National Parks Novel is set to come out in just a few months, so I intend to read The Road to Paradise before Where the Fire Falls is released in June. Here’s hoping…and here is the first line:
“June 1, 1927 Mount Rainier National Park Ashford, Washington
The promised view of the mountain peak waited, cloaked in mist like a tissue-wrapped gift ready to be unveiled.“
I love that this series is set in national parks and that the author is a former park ranger. Having a cover blurb from Jane Kirkpatrick isn’t too shabby, either. And did I mention that cover?!
Now it’s your turn…
I adored this book. I’m very much looking forward to the next in the series!
I have the first line from Sondra Kraak’s new release, Three Words and a Kiss, on my blog today, but right now I’m going to share the first two lines from my current read, ‘Justice’ by Emily Conrad, which releases on 9 March:
“Snow floated onto Main Street, each flake large enough to catch the breeze like a parachute. A miniature army, launching a surprise invasion on March first.”
Have a great weekend!

This was a fantastic read! I can’t wait for Where the Fire Falls this June.
I plan to start The Innkeeper’s Daughter by Michelle Griep this weekend, so I’ll share the first line from that book.
“Numbers would be the death of Johanna Langley.”
Enjoy your weekend.

Happy Friday!
Today I am showcasing the first line from Michelle Griep’s newest novel, The Innkeeper’s Daughter. I am loving the book. It is a page turner, and the hero is wonderful. I am just starting chapter 18, so I will share the first line from that chapter here:
“Johanna opened the door to chaos, then stood there, jaw agape.”

I’m so excited for book #2 that I have a NetGalley copy waiting…
I loved The Innkeeper’s Daughter (and a certain Mr. Nutbrown). 😀

I’m a little undecided about Mr. Nutbrown. But, it’s part of what’s making me so intrigued by this book. That, and I really love Alex!

I’ll be interested to hear which way you decide on Mr. Nutbrown. I agree with you on Alex! 😀

Happy Friday! I’ve never heard of this author so thank you!😁
My First Line Friday comes from a book I will be reading soon, Before We Were Strangers by Brenda Novak!
As far back as Sloane McBride could remember, she’d been told she was an ice-queen. Even the people closest to her, especially the people closest to her, complained about her reserve.
Have a great weekend!😁

I like that cover. 🙂 Happy Friday! The book I’m sharing on my blog is an old one: The Knight and the Dove by Lori Wick. Here, I will share Love on the Mend by Karen Witemeyer, “Peace and quiet. That’s all he sought.” Have a wonderful weekend.

The cover is lovely. I lived in the Seattle area for a number years and visited My Rainer many times. I have heard of this series and one I must put on my TBR pile. Today on my blog I am featuring The Witches City series. I have just started NO CURE FOR THE DEAD, Florence Nightingale story CHAPTER 1 September 1853 Some said I must have been possessed by a demon to take on the position as superintendent at the Establishment for Gentlewomen

Sounds like an interesting take on Florence Nightingale!
I lived most of my life in the Seattle area and never visited Mt. Rainier – I need to fix that (and take a bit less time to visit Mt. Hood now that I live in Oregon).

We lived in Central Oregon for awhile and I don’t think we went up the mountain road. We were in the Eastern Washington when St Helens blew her top.

I remember watching all of the news coverage, and we could see a bit from our farm. Someday I’m going to visit St. Helens as well – hopefully before she ever blows again 😀

I’m dying to visit Mount rainier NP!!! Thanks for making me dream 😉 My lines for today: “Louisville, Kentucky, 2015
All Allison wanted was for this conversation to be over. That and she hoped the ehavy gray clouds would part and the sun would appear. It could go either way today – sun or rain. She stood at the kitchen window, peeling old white paint off the sill as she waited for the Kentucky sky to make up its mind.
Meanwhile, sitting behind her at the table, her lover, Cooper Mc Queen, gently ruined her life.” Happy Friday!

I hope you get to visit it some day! It is a beautiful mountain. The weather in your quote could describe Western Washington weather 😉 Have a great weekend!

The cover is very cool! I’m sharing from a title set in WWII on my blog today, Firing Line by Mike Hollow. It’s a murder mystery set in London during the Blitz, and the cover is very 1940s London.
