If he stays, “Operation: Secret Sisters” may need to be renamed “Operation: Not Gonna Happen.”

If that’s not bad enough, the biggest bully in seventh grade comes over often and wishes he could call the West’s farmhouse “home.” When the bully’s abusive dad shows up as well, Ginnie thinks it’s time to change her family’s motto from “When you’re here, you’re family” to “There’s no more room at the West’s.”

When Monique Bucheger isn’t writing, you can find her playing taxi driver to one or more of her 12 children, plotting her next novel, scrapbooking, or being the “Mamarazzi” at any number of child-oriented events.

Even though she realizes there will never be enough hours in any given day, Monique tries very hard to enjoy the journey that is her life. She shares it with a terrific husband, her dozen children, an adorable granddaughter, a son-in-law, three cats, and many real and imaginary friends.

EXCERPT

“Keep telling yourself that. Howie squealed like a pig, and you know you enjoyed freaking all the girls out—including your teacher.” Uncle Jake pointed at Dad. “He’s not as innocent as he’d like you to believe.”

Dad shook his head. “You started the trouble with Howie. He took it out on me because I had the misfortune of being your younger brother.”

“Whatever.” Uncle Jake leaned against the kitchen counter, folding his arms. “I took care of him for you.”

“Except I got detention,” Dad reminded him. “Not you.”

“Really?” Ginnie asked.

Her dad was a stickler for rules. Thinking he would get busted at school amused Ginnie … very much.

“Teachers frown on dead animals in desks.” Dad said, shrugging innocently. “Who knew?”

Ginnie giggled. “Um … everybody?”

“Big deal. I got busted by Uncle Ben.” Uncle Jake lifted his hands to air quote. “I’ll take detention over his ‘creative consequences’ any day.” He rolled his eyes at Aunt Roni. “Our uncle wasn’t big on ‘punishment’, but he had nothing against ‘creative consequences’ for bad behavior. He had a knack for making them hard, or gross, or worse yet, both.”

“Even worse, Daddy gets ideas from him.” Ginnie stopped laughing and speared her dad with a look of disgust.
