First Line Friday: The Story Peddler

Welcome to First Line Friday,

hosted by Hoarding Books.

With book 3, The Story Hunter by Lindsay A. Franklin, due out from Enclave Publishing in May, I’ve finally started The Weaver Trilogy by reading book 1, The Story Peddler.

I’m saving my thoughts for a review, so here is the book description:

Selling stories is a deadly business

Tanwen doesn’t just tell stories–she weaves them into crystallized sculptures that sell for more than a few bits. But the only way to escape the control of her cruel mentor and claw her way from poverty is to set her sights on something grander: becoming Royal Storyteller to the king.

During her final story peddling tour, a tale of treason spills from her hands, threatening the king himself. Tanwen goes from peddler to prey as the king’s guard hunts her down…and they’re not known for their mercy. As Tanwen flees for her life, she unearths long-buried secrets and discovers she’s not the only outlaw in the empire. There’s a rebel group of weavers…and they’re after her too.

And here are the first lines:

Colored ribbons of light poured from my fingers. One strand broke free and soared above the crowd’s head, glowing golden in the afternoon sun.

Now to sneak book 2, The Story Raider, into my reading schedule…

Hope you are all staying healthy, getting plenty of quality time with family, and finding time to read.  Stay safe!

Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I shared the first line from The Road to Paradise by Karen Barnett but right now I’m reading Labeling Lincoln by Stephenia H McGee so I’ll share the first line from chapter 2 here: George struggled to keep his composure as they led him deeper into the bowels of the prison.” Happy reading this weekend!

  6. My first lines are from an upcoming release by Piper Rayne called a Royal Mistake.

“You’d think the reason I’m sitting on a small charcoal sofa in this tiny room with no windows is because I have some fascination with fairy tales.”
