You Are: Speaking God’s Word over Your Children by Emily Assell and Lauren Copple, illustrator (board book review)

youare_tyndaleThis sweet little board book is a celebration of God’s love, using verses from various translations as support for short sentences addressing a child.  Each set of text and verse(s) is accompanied by an illustration that stars different animal family groups.

The aim of this board book is explained in a “Letter to Parents,” and it does fill it’s brief of aiding parents to speak God’s word out over their children.  However, some of the execution comes off as overly saccharin.  Declaring to your “Priceless Treasure” that they are gifted may reflect the text of Romans 12:6, but out of the context of the Bible it does come across as a bit of the “everybody gets a trophy” mentality.

However, though some of the text may occasionally come across as a bit too precious to some adults, words are powerful and the warmth and positivity in these pages will make this a favorite with parents.  This is a board book for lovely, cozy, cuddly times and exposing young children to the unending love of God.  The final pages in particular, where not one, not two, but seven verses are given with my favorite part of the text, “Child of God, you are so loved.”

Recommended for parents, and grandparents, as a read aloud/board book devotional. And from the eye catching illustrations and font choices, to the sturdiness of the board book itself, the design of this book is also well done and pleasing.
