Filled with colorful, cute, and slightly whimsical illustrations, this bedtime book is a delight with a calm, rhyming text. As the narrative moves around the town, identifying how the townsfolk contribute through their different professions, each time ending with “Thank you all for what you do,” there is a warm feeling of gratitude as each character is given value and respect. And the book ends by addressing the importance of getting rest and thanking God, bringing the book to a calm and sweet close.
Such a vibrant and fun book may have some children wanting to read it outside of bed or nap time, and the pleasant nature of the text will not tax the adult reader of children who insist on multiple, consecutive readings. And the book itself should stand the test of time, with a padded cover and slightly bendable boardbook pages with a feel of good quality.
A bedtime book that teaches values, and is sure to be a favorite among bedtime reads. Night Night, Sleepytown is the newest of the Night Night books by Amy Parker with more delightful cartoon animal illustrations by Virginia Allyn. Other titles include Night Night, Jungle and Night Night, Daddy. This would also make a wonderful gift for a shower, birthday, or just because.
Highly recommended and Great Aunt Yvette approved. 5 stars.
