Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books.

Happy Spring! For the second Friday in a row, we have a theme: “in like a lion, out like a lamb.” This means that those who choose to share first line(s) based on the theme pick a book that is related to or represents “lion, lamb, weather, March, etc.” in some way. Something about this theme just calls for puns…fair warning.
Now and Forever by Mary Connealy (Bethany House, 2015) was the first book to spring to mind because the heroine, Shannon Wilde, absolutely adores her sheep. The hero of the story, Matthew Tucker, is a legendary mountain man, a trapper, and a died in the wool carnivore. As for lions to go with those lambs, since the setting is the American West, would a grizzly do instead? Because that’s just what our hero is about to run into, as this story starts just after the first book in the Wild at Heart series ends, with Tucker a bit distracted by his unwanted attraction to a certain Wilde sister who had unsuccessfully attempted to continue her masquerade as a Wilde brother after the end of the Civil War.
Here’s the first line:
“Aspen Ridge – Dakota Territory/Idaho Territory Border – August 1866
Matt Tucker could take people for only so long and then he had to get up in the mountains, all the way up where he was more likely to run into a golden eagle than a man.“
Now it’s your turn…
Happy Friday!
My FLF comes from a book I’m reading now, Only Yours by Susan Mallery….
MONTANA HENDRIX’S perfectly good morning was thwarted by a hot dog, a four-year-old boy and a Lab and golden retriever mix named Fluffy.
Have a great weekend and happy reading!😀

Loved this book! The book I’m featuring on my blog this week is Love on the Mend by Karen Witemeyer. I love all the books I’ve read of hers. Here, I will share the first line of chapter 17 from the book I’m currently reading, The Social Tutor by Sally Britton. “Thomas waited for her arrival, this time on Christine’s side of the brook, his breath turning to fog in the cold air.” Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

I’m sharing the first two lines from A Most Noble Heir by Susan Anne Mason on my blog today. Here, I will post the first line from the novel I’m currently reading, Beneath the Surface by Lynn H. Blackburn.
“Homicide investigator Ryan Parker flashed a thumbs-up to his dive buddy and fellow homicide investigator, Gabe Chavez.”
Let me tell you, that thumbs-up quickly becomes a thumbs-down!!! This book is really gripping. I can’t figure it out!!!
Happy Friday.

I LOVE that first line! I can relate.
I shared the first line of Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald today on my blog. It’s my current read. Here are a couple lines from chapter 3 of the same book: “Heat swirled through the kitchen, almost to the degree that it continued burning in Ethan’s chest. Sleep hadn’t overtaken his storming emotions the night before.”

It’s a deceptive first line – Mary Connealy really knows how to write an action packed opening!
