First Line Friday–The Promise of Breeze Hill

Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books.

Today’s featured book was received from the publisher, Tyndale, as a review copy in 2017.hoarding-books-button

It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day so it is time for another themed First Line Friday!  Luckily enough, I read my first book (so far) by Pam Hillman last year with a strapping Irishman as the hero.  In 1791, Connor O’Shea is the first of his family to leave Ireland and finds himself being sold as an indentured servant, purchased to work as a carpenter to restore Breeze Hill Plantation’s main house.  There is danger, excitement, and romance to be found along the Natchez Trace (also the name of the series).

I could go on, but instead I’ll just open my copy of The Promise of Breeze Hill by Pam Hillman and share the first line:

Connor O’Shea braced his boots against the auction block and glared at the crowd gathered on the landing.

Vultures.  Ever’ last one o’ them.

I couldn’t resist adding that extra bit as Connor’s accent is part of his charm.  I gave The Promise of Breeze Hill a rave review last year and I’m so looking forward to meeting another O’Shea brother in the second novel of the series, The Road to Magnolia Glen, due out in June.

Now it’s your turn…

Join me in opening your current read or the book nearest to you and sharing the first line in the comments, then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating.  I’m hoping to remember to bring my computer home after work this Friday (unlike last week) so I can go visiting around the links, too!

Happy Friday!

  1. I have this one on my TBR list. Thanks for sharing!

My blog is featuring An Irishwoman’s Tale by Patti Lacy. But here I will share from a book on my Spring TBR list, Hurricane Season by Lauren K. Denton. “She usually stayed in bed until at least six, but this morning she was restless, like animals get when the barometric pressure drops before a storm.”

    Happy Friday!

  2. Happy Friday! Great first line!! It makes me want to drop everything and read your book!

My First Line Fridays comes from a book I’m hoping to get to soon, Between Friends by Debbie Macomber.

    Dearest Momma,
I thought you should know Mike and I had a baby girl on September first. I realize Daddy said I wasn’t to contact either of you ever again, but I felt you’d want to know you had a granddaughter.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😀📚📕

  3. I shared this same one this week :).

In keeping with the St. Patrick’s Day theme (and because it happens to be what I’m reading right now), here’s another first line:

Brandi’s head throbbed. The hateful words still sizzled in her ears as the front door brushed open. (Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald)

  5. Happy Friday!

Today at my blog, I am sharing the first lines from Jennifer Delamere’s latest novel, The Heart’s Appeal. It’s such a great book!

Here I will share the first lines from my next-up book, Finding Evergreen by Jennifer Rodewald. This is my first read of this author’s works, but I am very excited!!!

  6. I need to read this book!

Ty Remington blamed the homemade orange marmalade cake for why he found himself huddled under an overhang off some faraway path in Glacier National Park, shivering, praying he might live through the night.

  7. I haven’t read this book and I’m realizing, I haven’t read many books with Irish characters. I hope you have a nice weekend!

  8. Auction block? Wow! Makes me curious as to what’s going on. On my blog, I’m sharing the first line from a book I’m currently reading, Praying For Strangers, by River Jordan. Here, I’ll share the first line of the chapter I’m currently on. “We’ve spent the night at the ski resort catching up and sharing belated Christmas presents.” Have a great weekend!

    1. Connor is a highly skilled carpenter about to be auctioned off to the highest bidder as an indentured servant. The winner is a bit of a surprise for him, and not a happy one. 😀 Thanks for stopping by – hope you have a great weekend as well!

  9. I like that you can clearly “hear” his accent already!

Here are the first lines from chapter 1 of my current (heart-wrenching) read: You are more than this. Andrew Harris glared at his smartphone while his mother’s text burned into his mind. – from Blue Columbine by Jennifer Rodewald

  10. I enjoyed The Promise of Breeze Hill, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

I’m sharing the first line from A Season to Dance by Patricia Beal on my blog today, but I’ll share here from the book I’m currently reading: A Chance at Forever by Melissa Jagears:

    “I wish you luck, George.”
    “It’s Aaron now. Don’t forget.”

    Have a great weekend!

  11. Not sure why I love the word “glared” so much. It is really emotive isn’t it?

Here is the opening from my favourite story for you: “All children, except one, grow up.” Have a great week.
